Morning Glory Arch

I had not heard about Morning Glory Arch or Negro Bill Canyon till the day we visited them. When a person goes to Moab they tend to visit the more well known places I think. They are all great but the less well known areas, and less traveled areas, are worth seeing and visiting.

Morning Glory Arch is a nice hike and worth the walk. The hike is not hard but it is nice to take your time and enjoy the scenery. I noticed that the hike is friendly for dog owners, and they are encouraged to bring their pets if they desire.

So let me show some of the things I saw at and near the arch.

Negro Bill Canyon

Negro Bill Canyon is a little less well known canyon in the Moab area. It is a fun canyon to hike and it has the fourth largest natural arch in the world, Morning Glory Arch. I have photos of Morning Glory Arch but I will put them up later. The mouth of the canyon opens up into the Colorado River.

Negro Bill Canyon has sandstone cliffs on each side as you hike up. It is a four mile round trip to the arch but it is worth it. We went in the Spring and the new leaves contrasted nicely with the sand and stone. We even got to see young trout in the stream. It was a lovely hike.

The photo above and the one below are  of the same group of rocks in the stream. I have both of them here to show what a difference shutter speed can have. You should notice the difference in the water. The image above has the water almost held in motion. The image below shows the water more smoothly as it flows down the stream.
